Located about 600 miles off of Ecuadorâ??s coast, the Galapagos Islands is home to quite a few different species of animals. Some of the wildlife here canâ??t be seen anywhere else in the world. These are just some of the interesting animals that you can see on the Galapagos Islands.

Iguanas

There are a couple of different types of iguanas that can be seen during a visit to the Galapagos Islands. The land iguanas are so ugly that you might actually fall in love with them. They have a brownish-reddish color and spikes along their back. Their facial angle makes them appear to be sleepy and appear to not have a care in the world. Another type of iguana that can be found here is the marine iguana. What makes this iguana so interesting isnâ??t necessarily its appearance, but the fact that it lives not just on the land, but in the sea as well. Marine iguanas can dive up to a depth of around 30 feet.

Frigatebirds

These birds are really quite interesting. They can soar in the air for weeks at a time. They arenâ??t able to take off from the water, but yet, they must search the ocean for food, so itâ??s not uncommon for them to soar above the water for long stretches at a time. Because of their large wingspans and small bodies, frigatebirds have a difficult time getting airborne and must get a running start downhill in order to take off. During their mating season, they only lay one egg and both parents take care of it.

Blue-footed Boobies

These very clumsy little birds are quite comical to watch and can easily be spotted on the Galapagos Islands. They often fall all over themselves just trying to walk around. Despite this, male birds tend to do an interesting dance as part of a courtship ritual to try to gain a mate. Blue-footed boobies get their name because they have blue feet that sets them apart from other birds.

Giant Tortoises

Some of the largest tortoises in the world can be found on the Galapagos Islands. These creatures tend to live more than 100 years and outlive almost every other animal on Earth. Throughout the Galapagos Islands, you can find different species of these tortoises, but they all tend to be fairly large in size and easy to spot.
